Top Touring Tips
From ‘The Big Canoe’ Schedule to Bank ATMs & Gas
(keep in mind that Southampton/Port Elgin & Owen Sound have most everything)
-
Banks: 24-hour ATM machines are available in the following bank branches: Royal Bank in Tobermory, Lion’s Head, Wiarton, Sauble Beach and the TD Bank in Wiarton.
-
Gas Stations: Gas is generally not available north of Owen Sound or Southampton after 10:00 pm in the summer, and 9:00 pm in other seasons. Gas stations are located in Tobermory and along Hwy. 6 and in Ferndale, Wiarton, Hepworth, Sauble Beach, Shallow Lake, Allenford & Springmount.
-
Public Libraries: Tobermory, Lion’s Head, Wiarton, Hepworth, Sauble Beach.
-
We have emergency 9-1-1 service. Use it for police, fire, accident, medical emergencies, etc.
-
Wildlife on the road can be a hazard! Exercise caution especially when driving at dusk or dawn.
-
Know where you are at all times. If you don’t have a GPS, plot your progress on the map. We give you that advice for two reasons: because it will increase your enjoyment (and help you find your way back to places you would like to revisit), and because emergencies can erupt any time, any place.
-
Family Travelling Tip. Train your children to do the navigating and map-plotting. It will help them learn to understand and appreciate the countryside – and hopefully result in fewer, “Are we there yets?”
